Last month I did the same thing. I bought a battery charger at AutoZone for $27. I let it charge for 4-6 hours and it has been fine. The battery was about 18 months hold.
I removed the battery, but it was mentioned on the forum that you don't need to remove the battery to charge it. Just remove the left side colored plastic panel and the right side of the battery/tool kit cover.
